Miya Bass is very excited to take part in the York college 1st annual spring festival! Miya is a professional singer and actress hailing from south side Jamaica Queens NY. Her most recent accomplishment is becoming a contestant on NBC’s season 14 of The Voice. She has had the honor to meet and work with the super star coaches Adam Levine, Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson and Alicia Keys. In her previous years of working as a performing artist, Miya has also had the opportunity to work with Brandy, Mary Mary, and Idris Elba just to name a few.
Ashley Keiko Chambers, founder and president of Keiko Studios, music academy, is a budding musician who has studied classical piano and the alto saxophone for over twelve years, and has been teaching piano for ten years. Ashley received her Master’s in Music and Music Education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and received her Bachelor’s degree in Jazz Performance at The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music. Ashley has played as the lead saxophonist for venues such as Minton’s Playhouse, and performed for Steve Harvey on Family Feud to name a few. In the near future, Ashley hopes to not only be a performer, music educator, and advocate, but to expand her music academy for adults and children to explore the importance of music and how they can express themselves through it.
Dahlia Jovan is a singer singer songwriter whose talent shows much promise. Hwer uncanny vocal ability enables her to effortlessly switch from a heartfelt soulful ballad to a pop-melodious musical soulnd that can win. over the hearts and minds of any diverse audience. Her talents has been featured on works with Mario Winans, Erick Sermon, Lucan Goodman of Lion Babe and Rockwilder. Dahlia has also written songs for Greek (ABC Family), Mwelrose Place (CW) High Society (CW) Veep (HBO) Power (Starz) and LHHNY (VH1).
Charlie Thurton is an eclectic R&B singer and songwriter based in Manhattan. Originally born in Jamaica, Queens, he has been a musician for 20 years, and recorded two albums as the lead singer of the R&B group Thr3e. He is currently writing and recording his first solo album with the Brooklyn-based record label Lisendeep.
Jamaican born Actor, Singer, Producer and Artistic Director Andrew Clarke has been gradually emerging as one of the most accomplished and exciting Caribbean artists working in New York City today.
This multitalented graduate of Jamaica’s renowned Edna Manley College School of Drama and Brooklyn College in New York, has gained considerable industry respect in a relatively short time as a true quadruple threat in the world of the performing arts- an award winning vocalist and thespian whose remarkable onstage talents exist in comfortable alliance alongside his behind the scenes directorial skills and producing acumen.
Camryn Bruno is an 18 year old Queens born, Trinbagonian spoken word poet. She currently holds the Trinidad and Tobago First Citizens National Poetry Slam title for 2017 and the Ms. Tobago Heritage Personality Queen 2017. Bruno is a freshman at York College. Camryn Bruno is internationally recognized having performed at various festivals in the Caribbean and a two- time participant at the Brave New Voices International Poetry Festival. Her poems explore social issues that affect youths. She considers herself to be the 'voice of the voiceless'. You can connect her with here:
The Phoenix Within is an acoustic rock trio based out of Queens, NY. The group is fronted by singer-song writer Omar Feliciano & is backed by percussionist Simon Lee & lead guitarist Lefty Taliakos.
Oluwaseun Ewola, model and spoken word poet, established his love for poetry once he realized how impactful his words were. His electrifying and exquisite words, alongside his on-stage charm and presence, make his words as equally embedded in your mind, as well as your body and soul. He has performed at various open mics across NYC, some of which include "Paint & Poetry" and "NuYorican's Poet's Cafe." He curated a song named "Simple As," where his poetic words and vibrant sounds meet to form excellence. Oluwaseun is also working on various spoken word projects in which he hopes will aid to expanding his platform both locally and internationally.
Dami is an American rapper of Nigerian descent. January of 2017 he released one of the biggest stunners thus far called “Red Foxx”. This track has been tearing up the clubs in nyc and has been on rotations at power 105.1, Airplay I”m Zoned Out Radio, and DTF radio just to name a few. Since then he’s toured with copymymusic.com from May to September and performed in 20 different shows in the tristate area. He opened up for 2 Chainz @ Citizens Bank Arena in Ontario, California in October following the first tour.
Demand and interest in this star has grown leaps and bounds. He has been interviewed by DJ Envy at the release of Red foxx, then another in March with DJ Enuff at HOT 97, and hosted an even @Angels NYC with HOT 97’s own DJ Drewski. Ending the year by talking to DJ Uncle Tone live on the grownmanshow. Not bad for someone whose still grinding…Dami has always been about the hustle, and the industry is starting to take notice.
R&B singer, songwriter, performer and actress Ashlee B was born on February 8, 1998 in Jamaica, New York. She started singing at an early age, in her church’s choir, competing in local talent shows at age 14 and won many of these events by impressing audiences with her singing and dancing abilities. She’s auditioned for well-known TV shows like America’s Got Talent and was pitched for The Four on FOX. Besides her mother, she is the only vocalist in her family. She’s recorded and released an original song entitled “Melt This Pain” based on a relationship failing. Through her music she is able to express herself and tell a story. She plans to release her debut album in July 2018.
Benjy b was born in Lagos, Nigeria. He began playing the drums at the age of 11. music has always been a big part of his life. He moved to New York to further his music career, he has performed in many showcases and concerts hosted by big names in the music industry like Angela yee, DC young fly and many more, he also has the support of his community. He released his hit single "munnay" ft slyy cooper drawing attention of many. Benjy b is set to drop his debut project this summer featuring a lot of surprise artist.
The York College Big Band is a student ensemble at York College / CUNY that performs repertoire including (but not limited to) standards from various styles of jazz: blues, New Orleans jazz, swing, bebop, Latin jazz, free, and fusion. The band has shared the stage with such legends as Carla Cook, Antonio Hart, Branford Marsalis, Arturo O’Farrill, Eddie Palmieri, Bernard Purdie, James Spaulding, Ray Vega, Ben Vereen, and Rachel Z. This semester’s program is entitled Bold as Love: A Tribute to Jimi Hendrix. The guitar legend’s repertoire has been reworked to include musical elements beyond rock and jazz.
The Frank Sinatra School of The Arts Jazz Ensemble is made up of some seriously talented students. These students are involved with Jazz at Lincoln Center, All-City Jazz ensembles and a host of others summer programs all over the country. The FSSA Jazz Ensemble has performed at Town Hall, The Jazz Standard, and the Tony Bennette Concert hall. These students can swing hard and have an incredible understand of the Jazz Canon.
